This academic year program uniquely offers direct enrollment in graduate level content courses taught in Chinese (including writing assignments), alongside native Chinese classmates. For an advanced learner who is ready to move from the language class to constant practical use, this is the ideal site. Key course areas are History/Literature, Politics and Global Studies, and Environment/Ecology. Career center supports placement in jobs in, or involving, China.

Program Application Notes:

  • Please note that this program is highly selective. If Hopkins-Nanjing is your first-choice program, we strongly recommend applying to at least one backup option. 
  • The HNC Two-year Master of Arts and Two-Year HNC Certificate/SAIS MA are not approved for Light funding. 
  • Students interested in applying should apply for the one-year certificate program. 

Light Fellowship Application Notes:

  • Only for graduating seniors and graduate students.
  • For students who have finished at least three years of Chinese. Four is more likely needed as adequate preparation
