Beautiful, tranquil location in a small hilly city surrounded by water. Cool summer air, seafood, and proud locals make this a welcoming locale for language immersion. Hakodate is known for its unique local and international history. This large program has a long history with deep ties in the local community – many opportunities to connect with local scholars, artists, or business owners for extracurricular learning. HIF attracts students from a diverse range of backgrounds. All students are placed in full-time homestays with local families.
A great choice for a student who would enjoy a quiet coastal atmosphere surrounded by nature. Very few distractions from language and studying. Not the best choice for someone eager to find the latest pop culture trends or experience metropolitan living in Japan.
