Are you starting to think about returning to campus after a long period of intensive language study in East Asia? Review these frequently asked questions from other Light Fellows.

Returning to Yale

Consider these ten suggestions from previous Light Fellows to build on your experience at Yale.

Consider joining the Student Advisory Committee.  Join the Light Fellowship Facebook Group.  Email us and request to join the Light Fellowship LinkedIn group (light.fellowship@yale.edu).

The Light Fellowship holds interviews in the fall and will contact Fellows about how to apply!

Yes! You may also want to write a note upon your return to give an update on your plans and experiences. Consider that this person may be a useful resource for future recommendation letters. Snail mail cards and letters are nicer than emails.

First, search for Yale language courses offered the semester you return or visit the Center for Language Study to learn about the Fields Program for advanced learners. Yale language instructors often host weekly, informal language tables, often during lunch at residential colleges. The Office of International Students & Scholars also has a Conversation Partners program.  Tandem Language Cafe is a student-run version of the language partners program.  Request a Chinese, Japanese, or Korean speaker to help with English and also enjoy conversations with them in their native language.
